Worms

Logan is always after me to find worms for him when I'm working the garden. If I find one, he has me place it on his hand and then he runs over and puts in in the soil near his sunflower. He doesn't seem to like the worms but wants to ensure that his sunflower gets lots.

Today, Jacob got in on the worm action for the first time and he liked it much more. He was carrying the worms around and inspecting them closely. I managed to find a pretty big worm today which Logan wanted nothing to do with. It was just too big for him. Jacob however, was quite enamored with it.

I was asking him to say "cheese" but he couldn't take his eyes off it.

I tried to teach him to hold it "gently" just with a couple of fingers rather than his entire fist.

Taking the worm for a drive in the car.

See mom?

I wasn't sure what he was trying to accomplish here...

But then I realized he wanted the worm to drive! Haha!

He kept trying to lay it out straight on the table.

Logan freaked out every time Jacob tried to show it to him. Here he is pretending like he can't see the worm.

Sending it back home. :)

There are SO many spiders in our backyard this year!

*No worms were (intentionally) harmed in the making of this post...

Waterloo Busker Carnival

This year's annual Busker Carnival is in full swing! We headed uptown on Thursday night for the Community BBQ and opening acts and then went back last night to take in another show.

Since the boys are still young and have short attention spans, we figure that it's better to do just little bits at a time. We'll likely go back again tonight after supper as well.

The three guys waiting for the show to start.

We saw just one busker last night, Grant Goldie. He is likely one of the best buskers I have ever seen. His show is wordless. He does the entire act (mostly juggling) just to music. It was fabulous!

Here he is just getting started.

Logan watching intently.

We didn't really have time to take in another busker since it was already getting late. So we headed down to the very small midway and let the boys each take a ride.

Logan chose to go up, up, up on the helicopter.

Waiting in line with Daddy.

So happy!

Hey guys!

I wasn't sure if Jacob would like going up, up, up so we thought maybe the cars would be better for him.

Waiting in line with Daddy.

Not too sure what it's all about.

Checking his blind spot.

Logan watching Jacob. He was not impressed for 2 reasons.
1. He didn't get to go on the cars too. Even though he was given a choice and told her could only have one ride.
2. Jacob wouldn't wave to him. Each time Jacob went around, Logan waved and yelled "Hi Jacob!" But Jacob, unaware of the protocol for these sorts of things just ignored him.

Happy fireman.

It's kinda blurry, but his face is just so cute.

Food Waste Friday - I Failed

Every week, The Frugal Girl encourages her readers to take pictures of their food waste of the week. This should help us to become more accountable regarding our waste and help us save fod and money!

Grapes that went moldy, an uneaten hamburger, and yogurt tahini dip that got lost in the fridge.

This is not a good week for me. I haven't wasted food like this in a while! Scott said that the hamburger would still be good to eat but he didn't take it for lunch today so I think that's a prime indicator that it's no good. I'm not sure how we missed eating this earlier in the week!

Those grapes should have made it into some of my Tupperware Fridgesmart but they didn't and thus rotted within a week.

The dip. Well I tried to use it other than with the falafel that it was made for, but it just didn't happen. I think next time I'll try and make less of it.

Going to try much harder next week! How was YOUR food waste this week?

Jacob and the Deer

The deer at the Elmvale Jungle Zoo were very friendly...I think they just wanted to be fed! I caught a cute series of pictures of Jacob and one of the deer.

Jacob Graduates

Even though he passed the limits to have his carseat flipped to forward facing a while ago, we chose to leave him rear facing for an extended period of time because it really is the safest way for children to ride. If you are interested, you can read about the benefits of extended rear facing here.

Anyways, he needed a new carseat for in Grandma's car anyways so we decided now was as good time as ever and keeping him rear facing until almost 2 years is a pretty good accomplishment. So we switched him a couple of weeks back.

Since he's never known anything different, he climbed in the now forward facing seat and faced the back!

Trying to work the buckles, still facing the wrong way.

Hey! This is not right!

Two big boys!

All strapped in!

While he never complained about rear facing, he's certainly enjoying facing forward and seeing the world from a new view!

Dear Aunt Pamela...

Thank you for the outfits from Hawaii. Sorry we couldn't sit still long enough to get a good picture!

Love Logan and Jacob

PS. These are probably the worst pictures I've ever posted on here!

Happy 30th Birthday Julie!

A couple of weeks ago we headed to the Elmvale Jungle Zoo to celebrate our good friend Julie's birthday. She was turning 30 and is expecting her first baby next month. So she wanted one last hurrah and chose to go to the zoo with her friends and all THEIR children.

Why hello there!

See her carrying her baby?

This is a mama kangaroo...see her joey in her pouch?

Logan taking a ride on the ponies!

Julie and Jacob check out the giraffe...you could get really close to the animals at this zoo.

Julie, Rod and their friend Omar checking out some other animals.

Colin and some of the kids checking out the deer.

Something funny must have happened.

Logan and Scott feed the deer. It was crazy how they could stick their heads out so far!

Jacob was happy to be near the goats.

Petting the goats.

I thought these pigs were really cute.

Checking out the pigs.

Part of our group.

After we toured the zoo, Julie and Rod invited us back to their place for lunch and a swim. We enjoyed a great bbq and a fun afternoon with friends!

Scott and Colin graciously took over most of the kid duty while Mindy, Julie and I got caught up chatting. Rod watched from the sidelines; likely realizing that soon, he be part of the kid watching contingent!

Two dads and six kids in a pool...

Thank goodness for Treehouse!

We had a great time celebrating!

Last weekend, mom and I headed to Stouffville for Julie's baby shower. I didn't do very good at taking pictures but I did get one worthy of posting.

The mom to be opening some gifts.
