African Lion Safari

Scott had never been to African Lion Safari so we though in honour of our anniversary and Father's Day, we would check it out today. It was supposed to be a great day weather wise so we got up and headed out shortly after breakfast.

Helping daddy open his Father's Day gift that Logan made at daycare.

Family picture before going to the safari...ok so it was REALLY sunny out.

Luckily, Logan fell asleep in the car on the way there and slept while we waited in line (for what seemed like forever) to get in. I guess everyone thought it would be a great idea to get there when it opened. Scott and I talked about whether it would be best to take our own car through the safari or to go on the bus. In the end, we went in our own car thinking that we would hopefully see more and be able to do it at our own pace, which is very important with Logan. We made a great choice! Logan sat up front on my lap and really did pay pretty good attention to the animals outside. Although I think his favourite things would be turning on the 4-way flashers and the windshield wipers...haha.

Positioned on mommy's lap, all ready for the action!

A lion - the animals were all SO active...they were roaming all over the place, right up to car windows and across the road, such a neat experience.

Ok mom, take another one of me now!

After some discussion, we did decide to go through the monkeys...no damage to our car, but man they are ALL over the place.

If you look closely, you can see the monkey jumping on that vehicles roof top carrier. They kept climbing up and taking turns.

Monkey on our roof...his foot coming down onto the windshield.

Climbing down the back window. Two monkeys rode on our car until the end of this exhibit, once we got to the end they jumped off on their own and headed back to where all the others were.

An ostrich tapping on our window...Logan thought this was so neat.

A rhino peeing...Scott thought this was SO funny so he took a picture.

I LOVE giraffes...this one had it's legs spread apart so he could lean down and drink.

Crossing in front of our car.

Near the end, Logan was getting really antsy, so he helped daddy drive.

After we'd been through the game reserve, we parked the car and headed to the other attractions. We were there at a great time and it wasn't that busy at all.

I took this when we were waiting to go on a train ride. Sometimes Logan is SO serious and is just always thinking...this pose really captures him.

Trying on daddy's glasses.

Three of us on the train (ok, so I need to work on the self portrait thing).

Serious boy on the train.

After the train ride we walked to see the elephants and then stopped to have lunch. We knew we would be nearing nap time shortly, so we headed to the splash park so that we didn't miss out on that...Logan LOVED it.

He got that pail as part of his lunch and lugged it all through the splash pad.

Splashing

Going down the slide...I took this shot from the top. Logan went down the slide backwards, crawling the whole way. I think there were way too many kids there for him, he was so distracted.

Walking through the water.

I was sitting on the edge watching while he and Scott roamed through the water. Logan kept running out of the water and sitting up on the edge, it was funny.

When we were getting ready to go, we had Logan half undressed (just in his swim diaper) and he got up and ran towards the water. He looked so funny in his little diaper and hat and white pasty body!

After the splash pad, we made a quick trip to the petting zoo before heading home.

Petting a goat.

Tired boy, ready to go home.

Logan fell asleep almost instantly in the car and then continued to sleep once we got home. We had a nice dinner together and then played outside before he went to bed early. It was a busy day for him (and me)!

Our next few weekends are pretty busy with BBQs and other summer fun, but possibly the most exciting news is that I'm on the countdown to be done work! My last day is July 31...only a few weeks left to go. I'll have at least a month (hopefully more) at home with Logan before the new baby makes his or her appearance.

Happy Father's Day!

Public Works Open House

Last weekend (I think?) the City of Waterloo held their annual open house. A chance for people to come and check out all the big trucks that they drive and learn about what they all do. Scott has been looking forward to this event for quite some time.

Logan had fallen asleep in the car on the way there so I wasn't sure how he'd like it, but he perked up pretty fast and was excited to climb into everything with daddy.

Checking it all out (forgive me that I don't know what all the machines were!)

I think it looks like they are actually driving here!

I was trying to get a picture of both of them intently watching something...Logan heard the camera turn on though.

I took this picture in the garage where they store the trucks. It was such a bit empty room and Logan looked so little walking in front of us with his balloon.

Climbing up for a closer look...

Driving the fire truck.

I don't know who was having more fun, Logan? or Daddy?

When we got back to the car, he thought it would be cool to try it out too!

It was a fun morning...I'm sure that we'll go every year to check it out.

Sweet New Ride

So, like usual, I have a few posts to catch up on...bear with me.

Scott has been wanting to buy a bike for a couple of years so we thought we might actually get one this summer. He scored a great bike on sale at Zellers and then picked up a seat for Logan to ride on the back.

They haven't been out too many times yet, but Logan loves it. Sometimes when he's outside, he'll go to the shed and say "bike" hoping to go for a ride.

Hopefully they get lots of use out of it this summer.!

Not too sure...

Zooming by!

Two happy bikers!

A Great Morning with Friends

Last weekend we went to Cambridge to visit with a whole bunch of friends. A few people that we know from music camp were going to be around visiting with Colin and Mindy to meet their new twins so we headed over as well, it was a great morning.

There were quite a few children there...with a couple on the way...everyone that was there is going to camp this year (although I'm still undecided), it'll be quite a camp with lots of little ones. Luckily the weather co-operated and the kids played outside all morning with the men watching and many of the women inside taking turns holding babies.

We had so much fun together that we planned a trip to the Toronto Zoo for later in the summer. It also gave me a huge itch to go to camp. Previously, we weren't going to to go but I think Logan would have so much fun and it would be nice week off (well kind of) for me before the new baby comes...I'm still deciding.

We didn't get too many pictures....

Kids playing in the sand...

Logan fixing the lawnmower.

Logan helping Colin out with his yardwork.

A Couple of Weeks Ago

Yep, so it's been a while again...oops. Since this blog is partly for us to be able to remember what we've been up to, I'm going to back track a couple of weeks to catch up on some stuff we've been doing.

To start off, the big boy bed transition seems to have been a success! Logan is having no trouble (knock on wood) sleeping in the bed and doesn't even get out of bed when he wakes up until we go to get him. So it's great! I was really nervous about the transition but he's made it so smooth. I realize there's still time for things to go sour but for now, we're happy with where things are.

Here he is sleeping soundly.

Scott will spend the next little while fixing up the nursery, getting it ready for the new baby. It will stay the same but needs a touch up job with paint in some places to make it look fresh. Once he's done that I'll be able to get all the teeny, tiny newborn clothes out again too!

A couple of Saturdays ago, we went to Cambridge, well Preston actually, to the Kinsmen Carnival. It was so cold and windy that day, but we tried to make the best of it. Logan has been to a fair before and on a couple of rides which he enjoyed. So we thought we'd try again. He certainly wasn't as keen this time!

Pretty nervous on the merry-go-round.

On another ride with daddy. He got a bit more relaxed on this one and did wave to me once.

We've been trying to enjoy the outdoors now that spring is kind of here. Logan loves being outside. We make trips to the park down the street from our house very regularly and spend lots of time in the backyard.

Trying to climb up the ladder...his legs are still a little bit short, but soon he'll be able to do it.

Still lovin' the swings.

New Bed....Success!

So last night went really well. Once Logan fell asleep, he was out for the night and didn't wake up until the morning. It was great and much better than I was expecting! Yay Logan.

However, morning came VERY early. I think I first heard him up and playing around 5:50am...and it was before 6:30am that he wanted someone to let him out of his room. In his crib, he was happy to play for quite a while and even go back to sleep on occasion when he woke up early, I guess that won't be the case anymore.

That being said, he went down for his first nap today around 8:30am (that's what happens when you wake before 6!) and half an hour later I think he's asleep. I had to go up once and get him back in bed, but that's not bad.

These pictures have nothing to do with his new bed...I just liked them.

The colourful outfit (with short pants) that Scott dressed Logan in last weekend.

A cute picture from the ride home from the park.

Daddy's Helper, Bug Lover & Big Boy

The weather turned out to be pretty nice in the early afternoon so we spent some time in the backyard. We did a bit of weeding but mostly just watched and were entertained by Logan.

Logan really likes to help these days. He likes to know what you're doing and always wants to do it with you. He followed Scott around the yard for quite a while this afternoon "helping".

Helping ot fill the watering can.

Helping to put more sand in the sandbox.

Helping to put the extra sand in the shed.

We have all these weird caterpillars in our backyard, I'm not sure what they are, hopefully they aren't a bad kind. Anyways, Logan found a bunch of them today and really like them. First he was just petting them as Scott held them, then he liked them on his own hand, then he picked them up and carried them all around the yard.

Logan's new friend.

A close up...anyone know what that is?

Unfortunately, the caterpillar did meet it's demise. Logan lugged it all around and eventually squeezed a bit too hard! At one point he almost pulled in it half! We'll have to try and teach him to be a bit more gentle...

In the last little while, Logan hasn't really wanted to spend much time in the backyard, but today he really enjoyed it, here are a few more pictures that I took.

A serious shot.

Playing in the sandbox.

Just lounging around.

A big milestone around here tonight as well! As I type, Logan is asleep in his big boy bed! I've been wanting to make the transition soon so there was lots of time before the new baby came but I must admit I have been stalling. Tonight when Logan was playing before his bath, he kept getting into the big bed and lying down. So I thought, maybe he's ready and we should just give it a shot. We did our regular bedtime routine, laid him down and walked out. He cried...I went back upstairs. He was still in his bed but sitting up. He was just scared I think. I sat with him for a bit longer, sang another song and laid him back down....he made a few more noises but has been quiet for almost an hour now! I know there's still the whole night ahead of us, but this is a good start. (ALthough I'm most worried about the morning since he wakes up so early and the crib was good at keeping him contained...)

His new bed...the blankets were already pulled back when I took the picture. We also have a few more things to hang on the walls still.

Dresser/change table and bookshelf (still have some things to bring from his other room, but this was kind of a last minute decision so we just brought over what we needed)

Poor Sigmund...Sigmund has been using this room like her own since we finished it. I seriously think that she was under the impression that it was just for her!

Ready for his big night!

Sound asleep :)

Although I wanted to get him moved and I know we needed to, I can't believe he's out of the crib. It makes him seem so much older! I'll post again tomorrow (hopefully) to let you know how the night goes!
