Soccer for Logan

After taking a year off, Logan is trying soccer again this year. I have to admit that we have been pleasantly surprised that he has really enjoyed playing and is doing quite well! The local soccer club has adopted a new method of running their club. It involves "Long Term Player Development". Rather than focusing on playing (and winning) games, the focus is put on actual skill development, really fostering the basic skills in order to make the kids successful.

They still play games, but they are small (5 on 5, I think), there's no goalie, no referee, and no real scorekeeping. The coaches run the field with the kids as they play, encouraging them and helping them out. For Logan, this has been fantastic and he really likes it!

He plays twice a week, usually one "game" and one practice. He's also played a few make up Saturdays since the season started late due to a very soggy spring.

This pictures are from a recent, very HOT, Saturday game.

Logan
Norah and Jacob both like to climb in the back of the nets...
A pep talk before the game.
In action! (That's Logan with the ball).
They still tend to crowd the ball a lot...
Taking a break in the shade.
There were enough popsicles at half time for these two as well.
Using all the shade they can find.
Part of her popsicle fell into the stones and dirt....
So she picked it up...
And ate it. :)
