Meeting Mia

Sarah and Mia

This afternoon after Scott got home from work, I went out to visit my friend Sarah who just had a baby a couple weeks ago, Mia Carolyn.

Mia is about 2.5 weeks old now and weighs 8lbs 5oz, that's up from 6lbs 13oz at birth. This little girl gained over a pound in a week! Seeing her today, it was hard to remember when Logan was that small, and hard to believe that at one point, he actually was!

Sarah and her husband Marc are doing well...Mia is eating lots and not letting them get much sleep, but thats typical. Logan and I look forward to being able to visit and hang out soon...ok, actually I look forward to it, but I'm Logan will have fun too!

Congrats guys!

Birthday Celebrations

This morning Logan and I baked a lemon meringue pie for Scott. This is his favourite pie...I made most of it from scratch (everything but the crust) and it turned out pretty well. Scott liked it!

We went out to Moose Winooski's for supper (Scott's choice). Logan does really well when we go out to eat. We just make sure to bring lots of food to feed him and that keeps him pretty happy!

I think I'll have steak and a baked potato...

Daddy and Logan

Mommy and Logan

After dinner we came home and Scott opened his gifts before Logan went to bed. We gave Scott a stainless steel water bottle to use at work and a "charm" that says #1 Dad for on his chain (maybe charm is the wrong word...is there a more masculine one?)

We tried to take a family picture of the three of us, but by that time Logan was pretty tired and we couldn't get a good one. After Logan went to bed, Scott and I enjoyed the pie.

Happy Birthday Scott!

Happy Birthday Scott!

Today is Scott's 27th birthday!

The three of us will be going out for dinner tonight to celebrate and hopefully Logan will give his daddy a nice birthday gift and sleep well tonight.

Our Camping Trip

Since nothing out of the ordinary happened today, I'll tell you (and show you) about our camping experience a few weeks ago.

We decided to camp at Rondeau Provincial Park since we had been there last year for a wedding and it seemed pretty nice. We headed up on Friday after Scott was done work, hoping that Logan would sleep the majority of the way (he did). We set up camp quickly since we weren't sure if it was going to rain. We had dinner together and then headed out on a walk to explore the park. Logan really liked being outside and having the freedom to eat dinner in his stroller rather than in his high chair with the tray...it got a bit messy!

Logan playing outside

We took Logan to the beach and put his toes in the water, he really liked it even though it was pretty cold!
We were thinking that Logan would be ready for bed after our walk since it was his normal bedtime. But since it was so bright outside and we couldn't make it dark he wouldn't go to bed. He was so tired so we took him for another walk hoping he would fall asleep. NO such luck. So Scott built a fire and we sat around it together until it got dark enough for him to go to bed. Since there were so many mosquitoes, we had a citronella candle burning too and Logan spent his entire time looking back and forth between the flames of the campfire and the flames of the candle! It was so cute. Finally it was dark enough and he went to bed no problem this time and then the two of us spent some time making smores before going to bed.

Scott has excellent fire building skills

It took me a long time to fall asleep and when I finally did I was awoken again by a raccoon snorting around our campsite, yes snorting! Now I've been camping my whole life and NEVER have I heard a raccoon snort, it was strange. Then it came really close to the tent sniffing around too, finally it left. (Hey Pamela, remember the time there was a skunk digging under our tent!)

The morning seemed to come very fast. We were up, dressed, had breakfast, played, had a nap and were up again before most others, I'm sure! After our nap, we waited for Arminta, Hannah and Bella to arrive to spend the day with us. Since they (and Colin) moved to Windsor we haven't been able to see them, so it was great that we were close enough to be able to hang out. Arminta said that they were calling for thunderstorms in the area we were and she drove through rain almost the whole way to see us. Luckily we had a great day without any rain!

We had fire roasted hot dogs and other good stuff for lunch. We made a trip to the playground where Hannah wore off some energy and the other two napped. We had a great day together without any rain.

Shortly after the girls left, the rain started...it was a crazy storm. Tonnes of thunder and lightening, so much rain and crazy wind! We managed to get Logan's food ready so we fed him in the tent and he fell asleep! Saturday night went pretty much the same as Friday night (once the storm ended).

We got up Sunday morning, packed up and left in time for Logan to nap on the way home. Got home and had to get everything out to let it finish drying.

One thing we did learn is that we'll need a bigger car at some point. We were packed full this time. To get Logan in and out, we had to remove other things to get at him!

Logan sandwiched in between all our stuff!

It was a fun trip. Next camping trip will be in August where we'll camp for a week at Music Camp!

Canada Day 2008

Logan in his Canada Day shirt

Today was Canada Day. Scott had to work since he had yesterday off, so Logan and I were on our own. Since we won't be able to go to the fireworks tonight, Heidi picked Logan and I up this afternoon and the three of us, (plus Daisy, Heidi's dog) headed to Columbia Lake for some Canada Day festivities.

The weather was awesome...we just wandered around a bit then sat on the grass and listened to some music while Daisy and Logan played.

While we were walking from the car, Logan entertained himself watching Daisy. At one point, he even laid his head down on the tray of his stroller so he could still see her but be relaxed too!

Logan's playmate for the day - Daisy

We tried to get a picture of the two of them, this is the best we got!

Heidi liked this scuba diver flag/wind sock thingy that was flying in the air

Scott had to work today so he baked a cake to take to his supervisor whose birthday it was today.
Who knew he could bake a cake?

Love for the Slinky

So Logan's new favourite toy is his slinky. We got it for free at the Baby and Toddler Show at Bingemans last month. It's cheap, made of plastic and doesn't actually go down stairs but he loves it.

Today I attended the memorial service of a 17 year old boy. Chris was the son of one of my previous supervisors, Barb, at UW, he died in a car accident last week. Barb and her husband Randy are coping but are obviously devastated, please remember them in your prayers as the try to figure out where their lives will go now.

While I had an emotional afternoon there, Logan got to spend the afternoon playing with his daddy. They had fun together.

Somehow my blog got a bunch of hits this afternoon...who is out there reading it?

Trip to Norwich

Mom and Dad's backyard

Today we went to Norwich to visit Logan's grandma and grandpa Dolson. We were hoping to be able to swim, but it was pretty windy and cloudy so we opted not to and instead just sat on the deck.

We had a nice lunch and visit and Scott helped to finish off the family room in their basement which had some water leaking issues in the winter. Since Scott's birthday is this week, he got a nice gift from Mom and Dad.

Logan and I (with my mom) are heading to NB next week to see Pamela. So I'll be busy this week getting ready for that. Logan seems to recognize his Grandma now, which is good since we'll be spending a week together. He loves to laugh when he sees her.

Lazy Saturday

The weather here today was hot, muggy and overcast. Boo. Not a great day for a Saturday. Logan had a rough night last night so we were all pretty tired when we (ok he) woke up.

We had a surprise visit from Logan's grandma and grandpa Miller who were in the area. They stopped by just as we were finishing breakfast, before Logan needed a nap. He was able to show off a couple tricks and smile for them.

He had a great nap this morning (I guess the 3 hour gap of no sleep last night caught up with him). So that was nice.

We headed out to Babies R Us to pick up a new Pack N Play this afternoon. We've had one all this time that we've been borrowing from friends...it worked pretty well. I got frustrated though because Logan had such a hard time falling asleep in it as it was so small, especially narrow. Last weekend when we were camping, Arminta and her girls came to visit and she let us know that the Pack N Play we were borrowing was smaller than usual. This was good to know as we were wondering how and where Logan would sleep in August when we go to Music Camp for a week. So off to Babies R Us to get a regular full size one! (Thanks Scott and Carolyn for lending us the other one...you can have it back now!)

That's about all we did today...Logan's sleeping now, all is quiet.

Here are a couple pictures from our day today.

Look what I can do!

I LOVE the camera!

Logan - 8.5months

Logan is 8.5 months old now, hard to believe! He is certainly growing and changing every day, becoming less and less like a little baby and more and more like a little boy.

He finally mastered sitting unassisted about a month ago. It was a long time coming and we were very happy when we knew that we could just sit him down anywhere. He loves the independence of being able to sit on his own, especially since this gives him a great ability to grab at the cats as they walk by.

Proud to be sitting on his own

He isn't yet crawling but spends lots of time on his belly, pushing up on his arms and moving himself backwards. When he gets up on his knees, he rocks back and forth, I'm sure crawling is very near in our future! (Look out cats!)

Logan has only 2 teeth that he cut around 7.5 months. There isn't any sign of any others right now but this doesn't stop him. The kid LOVES to eat. He has eaten anything that has been offered to him and there hasn't been a meal yet where he's decided he's full. He just eats and eats and eats. He has moved onto to mostly finger foods and doesn't take much off a spoon anymore. So if he can pick it up and get it in his mouth, it's good to go (he must take after his daddy).

Mmmm....food.....

Sleeping has been going pretty well of late. With the exception of when we were camping last weekend, Logan has been sleeping through the night (STTN) for about 2 weeks now! Wohoo! He was never an awful nighttime sleeper but still woke a couple/few times a night. Naps on the other hand have always been a struggle from about 2 months to 7.5 months, he was a 30-40 minute napper. Ugh. This was never enough for him (or mommy) resulting in a cranky boy later in the day. Recently, these naps have become anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours (usually around the 1.5 hour mark). Not only is he more rested during the day but I think this is what led to him STTN.

Sleeping in the tent with his duck

Speaking of sleeping, it sounds like the little man is waking from this morning's nap. I'm off to get him and start our day! Hope you enjoyed reading!

I'll Give it a Try...

So after spending lots of time reading other's blogs, I decided I should give it a try too. With life as crazy as it is most of the time, it's hard to keep in touch and keep other's updated on your life. I get lots of emails saying "send pictures", "what's Logan doing now?" and it's hard to keep up with all his changes. On top of that, hopefully a blog like this will be something that can be kept for Logan (and any other children) to read someday to see what their lives were like.

So here goes nothing...I'll try and post as often as I can but no promises that it will be every day!
