Just Being Kids

Our neighbour washed his van the other day and his daughter and Logan had a blast playing in the water that collected at the end of the driveway. It was a chilly day but they didn't seem to mind being wet in the least! A first reaction would have been to tell them to stay out of the water but I'm so glad we let them do it, they had such a great time!

She was the first one in. Logan is looking around thinking "Hey! Is anyone going to stop her?"

He decided to just join her!

Scott and Logan built a birdfeeder recently (the green thing hanging from the tree in the middle of this picture) and it gets lots of squirrel visitors. The other day there were 4 out there at once trying to get at it!

Logan was playing with his car this afternoon and decided that he needed to fix it. So he went inside, got his tool box and hard hat, brought them outside and got to work!

Jacob's really exploring these days and checking everything out. He really gets around by crawling and cruising around.

I took this picture of Jacob on Saturday. I went down to the basement to get something, turned around and saw his head poking through. I yelled for Scott to bring me the camera so I could get the picture.

It reminded me of this which I posted almost exactly 2 years ago!

Mighty Machines

Scott took Logan to the Mighty Machines showcase in Kitchener last year before Jacob and I were discharged from the hospital. This year we all went together.

Basically, it's a bunch of trucks, tractors and constructions vehicles in one place for kids to climb on and explore. In some cases however, I'm not sure who is more excited, the kids or the parents...

We had to park on top of a hill and then walk down to the show. It made for a cool picture.

It was a fun morning but it was REALLY busy. You had to wait in line to get a chance in almost all of the vehicles and there were horns constantly going off. I suggested to Scott that he takes the boys on his own next year since they all seemed to have fun!

Jacob is now Officially 1 Year Old

We had a pretty low key day as a family yesterday for Jacob's birthday. We did head out to see a Mighty Machines display in the morning but I'll do a separate post for that!

Like I did on Logan's 1st birthday, I tried to get a picture of Jacob when he woke up. A couple things to note. Jacob does not stand on his own in his crib yet. Actually, he very rarely even sits up. So when I went in, I had to stand him up and then take the picture, he was not impressed.

"Mom, what are you doing?"

"Please! Just get me out of here!"

It was a pretty typical day. We got up, had breakfast, Jacob took a nap. We went to the Mighty Machines thing. Came home, both boys took a nap and then we hung out at home and took a quick trip to the mall.

We did have another cake for dessert with dinner.

"Oh, cake. I LOVE cake!"

I think he had seriously had enough with the pictures!

With daddy's help. (Yes, I wrapped the gifts in newspaper. The kids don't notice at all!)

Once he could see it, he was trying to grab the pieces through the box.

It took a while to get all the pieces out of the box. Jacob got tired of waiting so he went to play with something else. Here he is realizing that they're playing with his new toy, without him!

A few facts about Jacob...

- He currently has 6 teeth...4 on top and 2 on the bottom
- He crawls but not on his hands and knees. He uses a commando type style to get around, and does so quite quickly.
- He would prefer to walk in ANY situation. He will happily walk holding onto someone hands FOREVER. When you pick him up and try to stop, he screams and throws his head back.
- He loves waving bye-bye...even to mommy. :(
- He doesn't sleep through the night but did sleep 9 hours in a row...ONCE.
- He loves his big brother. Sometimes Jacob gets impatient in his high chair and so Logan will often try to sing to him (Old MacDonald is currently the song of choice) which usually cheers him up.
- He loves to cuddle, especially when he first wakes up.
- He's a pretty good little eater turning his nose up at very few things.
- He still doesn't drink well from any source that isn't mommy. He's getting better at using a cup though, especially if there is juice in it.

In general, he's pretty awesome...but I could be a bit biased.

Happy Birthday little guy...you're growing up WAY too fast!

A year certainly flies by. As I sit here and type, I remember that one year ago today around this time I was timing contractions; wondering when we should call my mom and head to the hospital.

Over the span of a lifetime, a year seems so short. But after one, short year, I can't remember or imagine life without him.
