Logan's Bowling Banquet

Logan's bowling season ended a couple weeks ago and this past Sunday, we attended the annual awards banquet which was held at the Rec Centre in Waterloo. Scott had obviously attended this banquet when he was younger and a reward recipient but it would be the first time for the rest of us!

Cheering as someone received an award.

There were about 2 hours worth of awards that were given out...it was a bit much.

Poser

Can't really get him to smile properly these days...

Jacob's newest face that he pulls out for the camera.

Likely how Jacob learned it...

Logan receiving a trophy for winning the Father Son portion of the Family Twosome tournament.

It's a big trophy!

Scott must have helped win that trophy.

Checking it out.

Very serious. (I told you, it's big!)

Had to pull out a sucker to keep Jacob quiet for a while...

Receiving a trophy for having perfect attendance through the league season.

If you have to miss a week of bowling, you can bowl sometime during the week and submit your scores so you can still help out your team!
Checking out some more badges that he received. I have some sewing to do before bowling starts next fall.

Happy guy!

Pretty good haul for his first year of bowling!

Jacob liked to check out his reflection in the trophy while he made his "funny face".
The awards part was long but it was followed by a yummy supper! Bowling starts again in September and I'm sure Logan's already looking forward to it!

Skating Update (Logan)

Logan's skating ended a while ago, at the end of March, I think? But as we've already established, I haven't been very good at keeping the blog updated so I thought I'd post about how it ended up.

How he spent a lot of the 10 week session.
He can skate now, but he certainly doesn't love it and because of that he never got super confident. He can get up when he falls and get around, but that's it.

Cautiously getting up.
I'm still not convinced that he had the best instruction overall. His teacher was good but there were a few kids who monopolized a lot of her time because they never got up and cried a lot. But they encouraged the kids to crawl on the ice a lot to get around. I was ok with that the first couple of weeks but they were still doing it close to the end. Sure they could get around a lot faster that way (and without any tears) but it didn't really teach them anything.

In the crawling position.

Receiving some encouragement from his teacher.

Mr. Serious. He rarely smiled.
I think another problem for Logan was that there wasn't a lot of direction when they were on the ice. They would be given an instruction (ex. skate to the blue line) and then they'd have to stand around and wait once they got there while the stragglers were dealt with. Whenever he was engaged and they were playing a game or singing or something, he loved it!

Much happier now.

Someone must be saying something interesting.

Ah! A smile!
Yes, Logan can now skate. Does he love it? I'm not sure. He certainly hasn't asked to go back since it ended. We'll see what he wants to do next winter. Although now that he's been introduced to the skill, we can probably just take him out on our own next winter.

He did like admiring his collection of stickers that he received on his nametag though!

Snow Fun

Since I stopped posting back in January (oops) and we hadn't had much snow yet, I hadn't had a chance to post many pictures of the kids in the snow. We really didn't get much snow all winter. We rarely played outside...it was a long winter. But here are some pictures of some actual snow on a sunny day!

Logan was actually very helpful shovelling the driveway. He often shovelled a good portion of our neighbour's driveway as well!

Last winter, Jacob was hardly walking! He enjoyed the snow much more this year.

Doing his part!

Happy guy.

It's almost clear.

Brothers + LeapPad

Logan got a LeapPad for Christmas which he really likes playing on. Jacob hasn't shown much interest in playing it but will sit for a long time watching his big brother play on it. They are often found on the couch, one playing and one watching.

I'm sure Jacob won't be content just watching forever; but for now, it's awfully cute.

Crafting

So it's no secret that I'm not really into "crafting". I don't really like it, have very little creativity and have always dreaded this part of parenting. I'm quite proud to report that we DO craft around here. Maybe not as often as others but I try for at least once a week.

Getting ready to sort marshmallows (crafty AND educational!)

As much as I don't really dig crafting, the kids love it. Plus I don't want them to be the only ones at school who don't know how to cut or use glue!

This is serious business!
Logan's attention span for crafts is getting longer and longer and he actually requests to do things every now and then.

Trying really hard not to eat the marshmallows.

Glueing them in place.

Logan too!
I can't always come up with new things to do that are easy enough for the boys. I'm not into having them do stuff above their skill level leaving me to complete the projects. So when in doubt, we get out the playdoh. They LOVE it.

Big Boy Bed

First time trying out a nap in his new bed.

In preparation for the arrival of baby #3, we recently moved Jacob out of his crib and into his new, big boy bed in Logan's room.

All cuddled up!
Jacob has never been the best sleeper so we were a bit anxious about the transition. Couple that with the fact that both boys would be in the same room and yeah, it seemed like a huge change!
Little guy in a bigger bed!
It's been about 3 weeks since we moved him and it's going really well. It still takes a LONG time for them to fall asleep (like upwards of an hour) but we're working on it. He sleeps most of the night through and is still napping well. We've decided that any "issues" that have arisen are because the boys are sharing a room and not because Jacob is out of his crib. If Logan is NOT in the room or if he (Logan) falls asleep quickly, Jacob stays in bed and falls asleep too.

Plus, he sure looks cute in the bed!

Logan wanted a picture of himself too!
