Bowling Banquet

Yesterday was the annual bowling banquet. Logan's third banquet and Jacob's first as an actual bowler! Scott took the boys alone as I was seeing Stars On Ice (in very fabulous seats) with my mom and we opted to leave Norah at home with a baby sitter.

This year, they bowled at Towne Bowl as Waterloo Lanes is no longer in existence. It's a smaller league but still lots of fun. This year, we took advantage of instruction clinics offered by the league which allowed them more time on the lanes to figure things out.

Checking out the trophies before things started.
Logan bowled really well this year! He improved on his technique and really figured out HOW to bowl well. He won the award for "Most Improved Peewee" by increasing his average by 11 points on last year! He also was the "Triple Crown Winner". He had the highest single game (124), highest average (80) and highest double score (226) among the peewee boys, quite the accomplishment. He really got the hang of bowling this year!
Accepting one of the awards.
Proud guy!
This was Jacob's first year bowling and he did great too. Jacob has a very optimistic view in life and has seen bowling the same way. He just walks up and throws his ball every single time. No forethought, little disappointment, just getting the job done! He did bowl really well for his first year though! He and his team mate had the most points during the regular season of play which brought them a trophy! He will definitely be excited to bowl again next year.

Getting his trophy.
Happy with his teammate!
Between the two of them they collected 12 badges yesterday too....added to the ones that I still haven't sewn from this season, it's a lot! I've enlisted help from a friend for the sewing so the shirts are ready for the fall!

Another great season of bowling done!

You can read about last year's banquet, 2013 and also the year before, 2012.

Math Night

Last week, I took the kids to Math Night at their school. Scott was working late so it was just me and the kids. It was a bit tough.

The boys were really great and excited to try the games. They even played together really well.

Most of them were dice type games with addition and subtraction.
Getting excited!
Norah, however, was not impressed. She just wanted to eat the dice.
I tried to put her in the stroller with videos on my phone (something I RARELY do) and it didn't work.
Working had at matching shapes.
Trying their hand at Perfection!
It was fun for the boys but kind of a nightmare for me. Norah was not happy to sit in the stroller or quietly on my lap. Like usual, she was a ball of destruction. I know the boys would have liked to do more and stay longer but we did leave kind of early.

Note to self...next year, don't bring Norah. :)

Feeding the Birds

There are two things in this post that I really don't like...birds and crafts. But my kids like both so I took one for the team and helped them make some "bird feeders" when they were home from school on Easter Monday.

We have one "real" bird feeder but it's for niger seed. We needed more for the feeder but Scott didn't know it was specific and bought regular birdseed which will not work in our feeder.

So I rounded up some toilet paper tubes and some peanut butter and we waited for Norah to take a nap and headed out to work on them!

That's a fresh jar of peanut butter there!
I realized the boys have limited knife and spreading skills. Something we should probably work on.
Concentrating hard.
So focused.
Tasting the peanut butter.
It took a long time. Mostly because they just kept gooping the peanut butter on. I helped with the spreading.
Then we rolled them in the seed.
They liked this part better.
Logan too!
Now a very messy jar of peanut butter!

Then we headed to hang them all over the yard. We made 5 in total (I had supplies for more but they were done). The idea was that you just slid the toilet paper tube onto a branch but we quicky realized that we have very few reachable branches in our yard! So it was a bit of a challenge.

I'm bending the branch so he can reach...
Logan climbed up higher (smart!) to see if he could reach.
Nope. Still nothing.
Poor guy.
We did have to improvise a bit!
Today, they are all gone. I'm not sure who or what ate them but they're gone. The boys want to make them again soon!

Bring a Buddy

Last month, the boys participated in their bowling league's annual Bring-A-Buddy tournament. It's simple, you bring a (non bowling) buddy and bowl as a team! In previous years, Jacob has been Logan's buddy but now that they are both bowling, the got to bring actual friends!

Logan and his friend from school.
The best pic that Scott got of Jacob and William.
They had fun, really! He's just a shy kid.
All four boys at Tim Hortons celebrating their success!

Soccer Snacks

I think that the highlight of soccer every week is snack time. I'm pretty sure it's the highlight for all the kids on the team and their assorted siblings who join in on the snacks each week. Jacob included.

5 kids in soccer uniform...3 not...all enjoying watermelon.

Poor Jacob

Wherever there are buckets and water, Logan can be found, dumping water on his brother's head!

New Outdoor Fun

Brought this up from the basement yesterday...

Since Scott is still away, I decided that I'd tackle putting it together myself. The box indicated that no tools were necessary so that was a good start!

There weren't too many pieces...

Jacob helping me weight the base down with sand.

Logan got bored helping so watched the cars go by instead.

Tada! Mission accomplished!

Logan spent a good part of the day perfecting his basketball skills. He loves the new net!

And the box is still providing us with decent entertainment as well...

Go Canucks Go!

Aunt Pamela sent these shirts to the boys when she first moved to Vancouver. They seem very fitting now that it is Stanley Cup time!

Unfortunately, getting the boys to pose for a picture isn't that easy! Mom, did you get a better shot than any of these?
